The Agapemone (greek for Abode of Love), near Spaxton, was set up by the defrocked Rev. Henry Prince in 1846. The (christian) sect had a membership which varied between 60 and 200 followers. It went into decline after Prince’s death in 1896. The community closed and the property was sold in 1956
