The winter of 1963 saw heavy snowfall across the UK and the Quantocks was no exception. The first snow fell on Boxing Day and it remained often in deep drifts until early March. The photo shows Peter Dacey next to the signpost at ‘stairfoot’, the local name for the junction of Cushuish Lane and the Kingston St Mary/Bishops Lydeard road. The building in the background is “Brick Barn”. Later whilst unoccupied it burnt down. The cause of the fire is unknown.
