Although the emphasis of this picture is on the white building, the modern (2004) building called “The Lodge” is the rather strange stone building on the left, which at some point after this photo had another storey added to the left end of the building so that it met the roof-line of the tower end. Note the round windows in the end of the building, one of which still exists in modern “The Lodge”. The white house is now called “Longstone”. It is believed that both buildings were originally part of the Alfoxton Estate. The car is believed to be a De Dion, in which case the driver is probably Montague Cooper the Taunton based photographer/publisher of this postcard.
