The famous Rhododendron ponticum in Vinnycombe. Vinnycombe is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and the rhododendron is an invasive species. In about 2004 (when there was much more of it than in this picture) attempts to clear it began. However, it was not until the winter of 2010/11 that money became available to get the job done properly. Even now (2018) volunteers walk the sides of the combe each year and pull up hundreds of seedlings.
